This is a fun time of year. The cold weather starts to warm up and it is time to begin planning the work around your house to get ready for the summer fun.
This is also the time of year when you should check on your plumbing system to see that it made it through the winter season without too many problems. The cold weather and extra moisture of the winter months can cause serious problems for your plumbing system.
Before you relax into your summertime activities, it is important to make sure that your plumbing system is in good working condition after the winter storms.
Just think of spring as the month to check for springs – plumbing springs, that is.
If your plumbing system springs a leak during the winter months, and you don’t find it quickly, your summer fun will quickly turn into a summer disaster.
Thankfully, you can identify plumbing breakdowns by checking in on your plumbing system. Here are a couple of the more common places that leaks can occur:
- Washing machine. Your washing machine is very important to the productivity of your home. In fact, if your washing machine breaks down, it is very difficult to hand wash clothes on your own. Unfortunately, because your washing machine is so important, it is also very fragile and can develop leaks. Keep an eye out for water on the floor of your laundry area.
- The bathroom and kitchen faucets are super important to the specific tasks that you do at those sinks. But, they can also develop leaks that will cause serious water damage to your cabinets and countertops. If you notice a trickle of water coming out the back of the faucets, make sure to have it looked at right away.
- Your dishwasher significantly reduces the amount of work and water that you put out each day. But, it can also cause serious problems and damage if it begins leaking. The most common part of your dishwasher that will start to leak is the seal around the door. With time and chemical deposits, the seal around your dishwasher door can easily dry out and cause a leak.
Make sure to take some time this spring season to check-in on the various parts of your plumbing system. It is essential to limiting the amount of damage that your identify leaks right away. This way they get fixed sooner than later and, you can have fun in the sun rather than a list of chores to do.
